The quote, ” It takes a village to raise a child” is meaningful to me because a village raised me. I learned a lot from the people who had a hand in nurturing me, whether family or friends of the family. Them taking the time out to spend time with me, telling me right from wrong, and just listening when I needed someone to talk, etc. made me into the woman I am today.
This quote is also true in the early childhood education field because it takes parents and teachers working together with children to provide a safe, healthy, and thriving environment.
I have heard this several times as a child. I think that it does take those around us to assist in raising children. I f I see a child in danger or about to make the wrong decisions, I step in to help.

Latoya, a village is certainly what raises a child when we consider the bioecological system and all the people who are in it influencing our little ones. Were there any people from your childhood that cared about you and made a difference in how you developed? I remember our elementary school counselor, Mrs. Glover, would say “Hello, Cassandra” when she spotted me in the hallway with the sweetest smile and come down to my level and ask how my day was going. Something so simple made me feel special. Crazy right?!
